It was printed in India and has handmade paper on the covers and end papers. The book is profusely illustrated with old seed package labels, floral prints, antique storybook illustrations and fruit crate art. You may not have expected me to write such a book, but wouldn’t you expect me to illustrate it this way? This is not a joke, by the way. Many people talk to their plants or play music for them. Many others have told me how they like to hug trees or meditate beneath a favorite tree.

My book explains that plants and trees—which are alive of course—have spirits just as humans do (though of a somewhat different sort) and therefore we can communicate with plants if we try. Many of the trees’ words are wonderfully adaptive to our human lives and their advice is frequently enlightening or merely interesting. The emphasis of this book, in part, is to teach you to communicate with spirits, so it is partly a How-To book. If I do say so, everybody who reads this book loves it. So you probably will too.
